Day 2 – The Great Wall

Ok. The day didn’t start out so good for me. Both Hunter and Kerry were wide awake at 4am. We weren’t due to get up until 6:30. I told them to try and stay up later than 7:30. The day continued to struggle from there. Got on the bus at 7:45 and headed to the government Jade factory. Finally found out how they make that “Happiness Ball” and the family meaning behind it. We bought all of our names written Chinese and had a Cappuccino. Did I mention that it’s really cold today?

We then jumped into the bus and headed to the Great Wall. Did I mention it was Cold and raining today? It was wet and overcast, but we were still so excited to start climbing. We chose the steep stairs first. Made it to the first balcony and decided we were done. Raining, and as we got higher, it got colder. And, it was so steep in some areas, you had to hold on to the ice cold metal railing. I must admit, I was a bit uncomfortable going up, but much more coming down. One slip could really wreck your visit. We made it back to the snack bar area, shared a beer and dried off. We had our pictures taken with several of the locals. They just grab you and pull you in. Poor Hunter got mobbed several times. They love the blondes.

 Lunch. A Chinese restaurant. Shocker.

On the bus again. Off to see the Bird’s Nest Olympic Stadium. Rain and cold. It’s coming down pretty good now and getting colder. Kerry and Hunter stayed on the bus. I got within 1000 yards, took some pictures and back to the bus. The day wrapped up with an acrobatics show. Nice to be inside and drying off for an hour. Good show, some amazing stuff, but happier to be warm and dry. Back to the hotel at 7:30, everyone is exhausted. Ordered in room service (noodles and Chinese red wine) and went to bed around 9:30.

We are up early again. It’s 5:10am, Sunday morning right now and we are heading to the airport at 7:15. And guess what? We woke up to snow on the ground. Yes, snow. Did I stutter? We didn’t pack for this!

We get Tian tomorrow!

Love to all.
